FilepMotwary: Francois, thank you for accepting this interview. It is the first time for me to have a conversation with someone from the adult industry and I admit I feel intrigued. Tell me really, how do you feel for the fact that I have seen you naked and you haven¹t seen me?
FilepMotwary: Before getting yourself in the porn industry, one can say that your career in fashion started off as very promising. What did it take for you to change career and go from North to West?
FrancoisSagat: I cannot speak about "career" in this fashion industry...that would be exaggerated for such a period of time...I mean I did 3 years of studies for it and stayed in the business for less than 2 years. That was my only dream since I was really young (around 11/12years old: becoming a stylist, designer). I have to admit that I worked for the best. Or some of the best in Paris…But working as an assistant during the studies while a student wasn’t really rewarding knowing that doing some coffees for the designer himself or cutting different fabrics and bringing some stuff to buy outside was not the most creative thing you can do in a fashion couture house....
FilepMotwary:In the past you expressed your gratitude for working next to Nicholas Ghesquiere at Balenciaga. Why do you think Nicholas is so important?
Francois Sagat: And I still respect his work... I think he is the most contemporary designer of his century and I think he is still very talented, even right now(because I try to follow ,by far, what he is doing for Balenciaga for almost a decade now).I was very honored to know him and see the way he worked. I feel he surely doesn’t remember who I am or maybe yes. I have good remembrance though. For me it really belongs to the past. I was somebody absolutely different at that time, shyer, more introverted, and maybe not really ready to work with that kind of people, but it was a good experience, yes.
FilepMotwary: How did your collaboration with Bernard Wilhelm start? What was the impact the catalogue made to the world of Parisian Fashion Scene? How was it received when it was presented last year?
FrancoisSagat: Bernard knew me physically from Paris. He crossed me a few times before in some Fashion week parties and maybe this is how knew who I really was. He contacted me from mutual friends Yazbukey, the jewellery designers. It went really well. Everybody’s speaking about this photo shoot after we did it. The images were really strong and funny and remembered by everyone something I did not expect to happen. I feel thankful for the photographer Lukas Wassman. He is incredible. I guess nobody noticed that the main inspiration was Peter Berlin at first sight, something totally different from my style.

FilepMotwary: Thierry Mugler was probably the first designer focused on the “pumped-up” male body, turning it to an iconic figure of in the late 1980¹s-early 1990¹s era. Today, the gay society is separated in categories: the muscled guys, bears, leather, sm, twinks, daddies, sons…How is FASHION involved in each category, as you see it?
FrancoisSagat: I used to work at the Studio with Thierry Mugler 10 years ago and I see him sometimes at the gym today. You're asking me about the different gay categories in connection with a fashion influence...ok: I m not trying to judge anybody on their own style, but I see clearly that a lot of gays (or straight, girls and boys) think they're "fashionable" or "trendy" and proud of it. This is just how they see themselves and not the reality. I think some of them are just ridiculous and sadly snobbish or cliché. I think Fashion, generally speaking is just disgusting. The way people think like they're Unic or something, is just too much . Everybody (since the explosion of D&G ,Gucci Style,Vuitton...etc, the craziness of the last accessories..)is trying to create the most elitist style like it’s a competition we live in. It’s just getting too much complicated for me. On the other hand maybe I’m too much frugal, boring and simple for all that. This is also why I stopped working in fashion. For the rest, the leather culture is older than anything else in this word and maybe has more influenced fashion than fashion would have influenced it. Bears, daddies, muscle bears… it is more the way your morphology and philosophy is and less about clothes. Everybody wants to belong somewhere. I think I don’t belong to any of these categories...if you see me on the street you wont see me: I’m just invisible (well,I’m hiding myself in a big coat and hat ).I'm not searching to have my own style even. I would simply say that the body is primordial ...that’s why I'm training like crazy. The clothes come second.
FilepMotwary:How does a porn star function? How does the porn industry find its stars? How does the whole thing work for you?
FrancoisSagat: The word "pornstar" has always sounded weird and ridiculous...when I read magazines, everybody is a "Pornstar" and it is embarrassing. Real porn stars are the ones who are still recognizable , considered as Icons, who are not even alive today even. Like Joey Stefano that I will always remember even if he is not from my generation. A Porn Actor is here to help sales of the dvds and and the sad part of the story is that he does not make so much money from that. I think we, models, are really disrespected in terms of business: no royalties on sales of movies. And it’s difficult or even impossible to negotiate it in a contract. I find this disgusting. I still don’t know who I am. I only know that I m a Porn Performer that people don't forget for 2 years now, that’s all.. The mechanism of the porn industry to find "stars" is exactly the same as the Fashion Industry to find their Top Models. You have many many many amazing beautiful guys, with amazing bodiess ,perfect ass, perfect cock who are working for different companies with good results and you have those who have more personality, maybe less perfect or beautiful, but more recognizable , sexy, able to become "stars”.
FilepMotwary: During your fashion days, you worked with Carine Roitfeld, Martin Margiela,Isabela Blow, Jeremy Scott, Beat Bolliger. All of them great names in the industry. What was really behind Francois Sagat¹s life though back then?
FrancoisSagat: Yes all these names. Exactly! To be realistic, as I tried to explain before, I was more the shadow of myself than really myself, someone not really ready to work in this industry(Fashion) with all these sophisticated people(sophisticated is not bad!).I was somebody who was young and shy (22/23 years old that time)whos life was kind of cool but not really structured. There was a lot of insecurity about my future, money, lack of energy to completely express myself. I fond real friends though, the friends I have today. Let’s say I was a person under construction...(well I’m still...).
FilepMotwary: What do you consider as humour?
FrancoisSagat: Being able to laugh about myself (like I’m trying to do) Well "trying" is not the exact word, because it's really easy to make fun on me. I just do it easily... To make fun on me before other people do it ( laughs)."Sense of humour" is to be able to accept criticizes from everyone. I had to learn this, because at the beginning, when you get more and more famous, it’s really difficult to confront people that you never heard about before and who are trying to attack you. I love to be serious too.
FilepMotwary: Do you ever feel pressured by the failure of your fashion past? Would you give it another try?
FrancoisSagat: Absolutely not ,my mother does though but I don’t give a shit. It is just that some people didn’t believe in me
that time. but I know I didn’t believe in me too. I knew that I wasn’t made for that from very early. I m a very good drawer and I still draw, that’s all, but I don’t belong to fashion. Being creative to dress people. for me its bullshit. Some people are good at it and some others don’t care about matters like this one. Having a fit body is the best outfit.
FilepMotwary: What is the aim behind your “life choices”? The aim of these main choices? FrancoisSagat: At the beginning I wanted to keep myself visible to the world (obviously the gay world), then my feelings changed after I got all the attention I needed. So the next aim would be, to be appreciated for what I’m trying to propose in an artistic way (if I have the pretension to pretend to be an artist. Surely I cannot say this cause people will judge me) Of course I am not trying to be appreciated for who I am because it would be a funny demand on my behalf. I hate giving too much information about my personal life. I’m a quite private person. I avoid becoming like some other porn actors (that I know) with their Stupid Cheap LoveStory (one big Mistake that I did, never again)!!! There is only One Brad and One Angelina!!!!
FilepMotwary: Are you violent?
FrancoisSagat: I can be sometimes but only if You really have to push me hard, then I m really pacific. I hate when people say that I’m a Sweet Heart ‘because it’s not true. I m also an Asshole for those who deserve it a Lunatic too..."Sweet heart" sounds too stupid for me. I'm getting really aggressive with aggressive people and I guess it is normal.
FilepMotwary: When is your biography book coming out?
FrancoisSagat: It is supposed to be released in October 2008. We aim for a publication that it not going to be a boring book with text and only text..One will be able to see a lot of pictures, illustrations and other bonuses. Something easy and beautiful to watch and read with interesting information ..Like a collector’s item ,not a pretentious boring book. I am not the one writing it though... I'm more focused right Now on my World Erotico club Show. An artistic striptease that I’m preparing hardly for . We did already all the visuals for the video projections .with all my requests and inspiration. The music I chose is also ready. The Editor did a great job. Now we are working in finding as more night clubs as we can in France (my Country) rest of Europe and also United States. It is a tuff work that demands communication. I don’t
make any special appearances with my company Titan anymore. This Show has nothing to do with porn, except the fact that I am a porn actor. It will be hot but with no dicks out. The show is due to start in March.
